Just Book Club is an app for running a book club. This page explains what information the app collects, what happens to it, and what never happens to it. It is short because we collect very little.
The short version
We collect what the app needs to work: your email address, the name you choose, and the things you post. We do not run analytics or tracking, we do not show ads, and we do not sell your data to anyone.
What we collect
- Account details. Your email address and a password, or your Sign in with Apple identity if you sign in that way. Hide My Email works with the app. Passwords are stored as a hash by our sign-in provider; we never see them.
- Your profile. The display name you enter and the avatar and color you pick.
- What you post. Clubs you create, book suggestions, votes, polls, posts, comments, chat messages, reading progress, ratings, reviews, meeting RSVPs, and any reports or feedback you send us.
- A push token. If you turn on notifications, we store the device token Apple uses to deliver them. Signing out removes it.
That is the whole list. The app does not collect your location, your contacts, your photos, or any advertising identifier.
What we do not do
- No analytics or tracking SDKs. The app contains none.
- No ads, and no advertising partners.
- No selling, renting, or trading your data, to anyone, in any form.
- No marketing email. The only email you get from us is about your account: confirming your address or resetting your password.
Who can see your activity
Your profile and everything you post are visible to the members of the clubs you join, and to nobody else. Nothing in Just Book Club is public, and there is no way to browse clubs you are not a member of.
Where your data lives
Your data is stored with Supabase, the hosting service that runs our database and sign-in. Apple delivers push notifications. These providers process data on our behalf so the app can work; they are not permitted to use it for their own purposes.
Book search
When you search for a book, the words you type are sent to public book catalogs (Open Library and Google Books) to find matches, and cover images load from those catalogs. Your account details are not included in those requests.
Deleting your data
You can delete your account from the You tab in the app. Deletion is immediate and permanent: your profile, email address, device tokens, votes, RSVPs, reading progress, ratings, and notifications are erased. Messages, posts, and comments you wrote in shared club conversations are kept so those conversations still make sense, but they are disconnected from your identity and shown as coming from a former member. If you are the only host of a club, the app asks you to hand the club to someone else or delete it before your account can be removed.
Children
Just Book Club is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has an account, email us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with an updated date at the top. A change that affects what we collect or who can see it will also be called out in the app.
